When we think of dangerous nights to drive, everyone typically thinks of New Years Eve, which has practically become a national excuse to go out and get drunk. Nevertheless, it is not the most dangerous holiday for driving, as reported by Forbes.

Forbes examined factors including the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration's (NHTSA) report of fatalities for three- or four-day holidays and data from AAA on traffic congestion and the number of drunk driving accidents. Based on findings, Thanksgiving was the most dangerous holiday for driving.

A Dangerous Recipe

This four-day weekend is also the busiest travel weekend of the year. This is combined with driving long distances, frequently in the dark, on congested roads, after eating a large meal and drinking significant quantities of alcohol has been shown to be a recipe for dangerous car accidents.

Other Dangerous Holidays

The Fourth of July is the second most dangerous driving holiday, Forbes found. Because of numbers of people on vacation mixed with lots of driving, and combined with lots of drinking, equal lots of automobile accidents. Memorial and Labor Day follow, due to their status as permanent three-day holidays. New Year's Eve did make the list, as number five, right in front of Halloween, which rounded out the list at number six.

Holiday seasons should be a time of fun and celebration. However, if you are involved in a car accident remember you do have rights. Speak to a knowledgeable personal injury attorney to help you hold those responsible accountable for your injuries.
